The new Democratic Union, established as a merger between Meretz, Israel Democratic Party and MK Stav Shaffir, was announced on Thursday in Tel Aviv.
Former prime minister Ehud Barak, Shaffir and Meretz leader Nitzan Horowitz announced the merge at a press conference.
The merge does not include Labor as Shaffir, who is a Labor MK, was unable to convince party leader Amir Peretz to merge with Barak.
Barak vowed that his team “will fight Netanyahu as nobody has for the last 20 years.”
