The Chief Sephardi Rabbi of Haifa Shlomo Shlush was investigated under caution week by the Israel Police's anti-fraud unit on suspicion that he exploited his post in order to dole out favors to his close associates and receive illicit donations.

National Police Spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said Saturday that Shlush is under investigation under suspicion that he awarded kashrut certificates to various factories in exchange for donations, and that he pressured kashrut supervisors to give up incriminating information against the rabbi's opponents. He is also being investigated over suspicions that he blackmailed his opponents by using compromising information about them that he gleamed online and elsewhere.

Rosenfeld would not say if charges will be brought against the rabbi in the coming days, only that the investigation against him is ongoing.
