The chief suspects
in the Holyland bribery affair were further remanded in custody by the
Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
holding company owner Hillel Charni, former city engineer Uri Shitreet
and accountant Eliahu Hasson – were remanded for a further nine days
each, while Charni's former assistant Meir Rabin was remanded for a
further ten days.The four were each remanded for the full period requested by the police.
The remand proceedings of one-time Polar partner Avigdor Kelner were continuing on Tuesday evening.
Abraham Heiman said of the affair that bribery had penetrated the
highest echelons of government, and refuted the defense lawyers’
claims, saying the remands were unconnected with former prime minister
Ehud Olmert’s expected return to Israel.
