Clinton calls Abbas to gain support for talks

WASHINGTON — The US State Department said Thursday that it wanted to see "a positive signal" on the negotiations from the Arab League. To secure that support, the department said, US Secretary of State Clinton and special Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell have been making calls to Arab leaders, including Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Obama administration is pressing Arab leaders to help keep the US-brokered peace talks alive. The comments come ahead of Arab League meetings in Libya on Friday.
