The West Bank Council for Higher Education voted to recognize Ariel University Center (AUC) as Israel's eighth university Tuesday evening.
Earlier this month, Council for Higher Education's planning and budgetary committee recommended against giving the college university status.
Ahead of the decision Tuesday, Professor Manuel Trajtenberg, head of the committee that recommended against the move earlier in the month, said that the West Bank committee had a conflict of interest in the matter and was not considering outside opinions.
