An American navy vessel has detected the flight recorders from a crashed Ethiopian Airlines jet at some 1,300 meters under the sea, a Lebanese army official said Thursday.

The plane went down early Monday just minutes after takeoff from Beirut in a fierce storm. All 90 people on board were feared dead.

The army official said it was not immediately clear how long it would take to retrieve the plane's flight recorders, which were located late Wednesday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
