Director resigns for anti-haredi comments

Yechiel Levi, the director of the Kiryat Yovel community administration who said he was trying to choke off resources to the haredi community in the neighborhood, resigned on Thursday, stating that he could no longer operate effectively in light of the uproar his comments had generated.
“One needs to strangle the haredi population so that they leave the neighborhood,” Levi said in an Army Radio interview on Tuesday. In his letter of resignation, Levi apologized for his comments, which he said “harmed the complicated and delicate relationships which I have worked hard to preserve and improve between the different communities which comprise Kiryat Yovel.”
