ElBaradei: Mubarak's speech was trick to retain power

February 2, 2011 01:42

Egyptian opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei on Wednesday reacted to President Hosni Mubarak's announcement that he wouldn't seek another presidential term, telling CNN in an interview that Mubarak did not meet the demands of the protestors to resign, and his speech was a trick designed to maintain his hold on power.

ElBaradei added that Mubarak should give up his leadership and transfer his power to a caretaker government until elections are held.

The opposition figure added that he would consider running in the elections in September, but noted that it was not his main goal at this point.
