Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat on Tuesday responded to escalating tensions in the South, saying that the Palestinian Authority opposes all violence between Israel and Gaza.

"We are against the targeting of civilians," Erekat said in an interview with Army Radio, adding that some Gazans killed by Israeli airstrikes were "militants, but many of them were civilians."

Israel must understand that "an eye for an eye" does not work, the Palestinian official warned.
