Labor chairmanship candidate Erel Margalit quit the leadership race on Wednesday and threw his support behind Isaac Herzog.

"The time has come to join forces and unite behind a young chairman who can lead the party to the future," Margalit said in his announcement.

Margalit had earlier withdrawn his appeal to the Petah Tikva District Court calling for the primaries to be pushed back, paving the way for elections to take place on schedule next Monday.
