Former IDF chief of General Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak passed away Wednesday morning at Hadassah University Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A decorated military commander and 15th Israeli army chief, Lipkin-Shahak twice was awarded the Medal of Valor.

Following his retirement from the army, Lipkin-Shahak co-founded the "Merkaz Party" and served as minister of transportation and tourism.
