Former chief rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger, confessed and was convicted on charges of taking bribes as part of a plea bargain Tuesday at a Jerusalem court.
Under the deal, Metzger is seeking a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence and monetary compensation in the amount of NIS 5 million. Matzger was also charged with fraud and other crimes while service in his role as chief rabbi.
