Hamas's Zahar challenges Fatah's Abbas to elections

Senior Hamas official Dr. Mahmoud Zahar challenged Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to test his popularity in elections following the deal that the Islamist group signed with Israel to release over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, Hamas-affiliate Al Resalah reported Wednesday.
"We invite Abu Mazen [Abbas] to enter into elections to see the measure of his popularity on the Palestinian street," Al Resalah quoted Zahar as saying.
Zahar had previously said that Abbas could never have freed as many prisoners as Hamas was able to free in the Schalit deal.
