Some 750 migrants entered Israel illegally across the border with Egypt in March, the highest-ever single month total, the Population, Immigration, and Borders Authority (PIBA) announced on Sunday.

The number is a significant increase of the two previous months, when 600 and 400 arrived in January and February, respectively.

PIBA Chief Amnon Ben-Ami said Sunday that in 2011 the authority will continue "concentrated efforts using all the tools at our disposal for enforcement, in order to reduce the number of infiltrators to Israel.

In February, PIBA released a report that stated that Israel counted 33,273 "illegal infiltrators" as of December 23, 2010. This total included 19,442 from Eritrea, 8,256 from Sudan, and 5,575 from elsewhere in Africa.
