Police in the South seized three handguns and six rifles of various types during a raid in the Beduin town of Rahat last week.

Five suspects were arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of firearms.

The raids were carried out by the elite Rotem Unit and officers from the Rahat police station.

The southern police district, headed by Cmdr. Yochanan Danino, has launched a major drive to seize illegal firearms often used in feuds between clans and families in the Beduin community.
