Iowa voters elect Grassley to 6th Senate term

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa voters elected Republican Charles Grassley to a sixth Senate term on Tuesday, extending a political career that dates to 1958.
The 76-year-old Grassley won despite calls from Democratic challenger Roxanne Conlin to replace him with someone who hadn't been in Washington for decades and who would offer new ideas.
Grassley responded that he returns to Iowa most weekends and hadn't forgotten his roots. He also argued that his seniority helps Iowa because it allows him to serve on key Senate committees.
