Iranian authorities amputated the hands of five convicted Iranian thieves in a prison in the western city of Hamedan on Thursday, Reuters cited from a report by the semi-official ILNA news agency.

"When a hand gets used to commit robbery and cause harm to people it must be shortened," local judiciary official Akbar Biglari was quoted as saying.
