Iranian presidential candidate and former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati said Iran was not interested in developing nuclear weapons, AFP reported on Monday.

"We have announced repeatedly that we are against developing nuclear bombs," the Presidential hopeful said.

Velayati added that nuclear weapons were against the Islamic religion. "Our supreme leader says developing a bomb is religiously forbidden," Velayati told AFP.
