An Israel Post Office employee was arrested on suspicion of intercepting mail containing cash and stealing the money, police in the south said on Tuesday.

Police were first contacted last month by the Post Office's security officer in Ashkelon, who complained that envelopes containing cash did not arrive at the intended addresses.

Officers from the Ashkelon police station launched an undercover investigation and installed secret CCTV cameras in the post office.
