TOKYO - Japan needs a fundamental review of its oversight of nuclear power after a nuclear disaster at a tsunami-hit nuclear power plant on the northeast coast, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said on Wednesday.

Japan is trying to contain a crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami on March 11 knocked out the plant's cooling systems, leading to leaks of radiation.
