Ofer Lefler, the former Israel Prison Service spokesman, is the Jewish Agency for Israel's new director of communications, the group announced on Wednesday.

JAFI chairman Nathan Sharansky welcomed Lefler saying he would play an important part in explaining the Zionist organization's role to the public.

Lefler, 47, was selected by an ad-hoc committee headed by JAFI official Moshe Schif. He replaced Haviv Rettig Gur in the position.
