Jordan says international support for Syrian crisis lacking

Jordan's Planning Minister Imad Fakhoury said that he hopes members of the international community step up their contributions and fulfill their obligation to assist host countries taking in refugees.

He spoke Tuesday about the Jordan Response Plan (JRP), a one-year program seeking to address the Syrian crisis through an all-encompassing consolidation of international efforts to address humanitarian and developmental crises in the region, the Jordan Times reported.

The minister said he hopes to close the funding gap in the upcoming International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, and ease the burden on countries experiencing "a number of humanitarian crises and dramatically increased human suffering and vulnerability."

The plan, according to the report, was developed in partnership with governmental representatives from the international community, NGO's, UN agencies, and donors, and has raised $165 million since the beginning of 2015 - only a fraction of the JRP's $2.9 billion cost.
