A senior Hamas operative who was killed in an IAF strike in the southern Gaza Strip Friday overnight was directly and physically involved in the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit, the IDF Spokesperson said Saturday in an official statement.

Tayser Abu Snima also held several major roles in the military wing of Hamas and was involved in other terrorist attacks against Israel, the spokesperson said.

Most recently, he was in charge of executing a terror attack from Sinai, firing rockets at the city of Eilat.

The Schalit family was notified of the incident, the statement said.
