Opposition leader Tzipi Livni will become the most prominent Israeli politician ever to speak at Tel Aviv's Gay Pride parade next month.
Livni has participated in other events of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community since actively seeking their votes in last year's election. Her associates said she would not actually march in the parade.Meretz's Nitzan Horowitz, who is the only openly gay MK, said Livni still needed to prove her commitment to the community with legislation and not just words.
"The real test for Livni will be whether she works for the gay community and civil liberties in Israel," Horowitz said. "Her party has not always been helpful when we needed it."
