The IDF should be prepared to evacuate settlements if there are mass Palestinian protests in September, Independence MK Einat Wilf said during the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee (FADC) meeting on Sunday.

Committee chair Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) added that the IDF is unprepared to deal with mass Palestinian protests and the government should have made more diplomatic efforts.

The housing protests around the country were also discussed at the meeting, with IDF Chief of General Staff Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz responding to calls from protesters to cut the defense budget by countering that Israel cannot compromise on her preparation to face threats.

Gantz also added that the IDF would not stand in the way of the government should the government decide to apologize to Turkey over the Mavi Marmara incident.
