Major winter storm threatens US wheat, cattle farms

Key farm states Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri were being blasted Tuesday by what, according to forecasters, could be a record-setting combination of snow fall and frigid conditions, Reuters reported. Snow could reach a foot or more in some areas.
Oklahoma reported 45 mile-per-hour winds and teperatures as low as nine degrees - a dangerous condition for the states 5.1 million head of cattle.
Fields seeded with winter wheat last autumn could be threatened if they lack a protective snow cover. Frigid conditions can can kill new plants which lack adequate moisture.
