Mexico detains man accused of 'Fast and Furious' killing

MEXICO CITY - Mexican police detained a man accused of fatally shooting a US Border Patrol agent almost two years ago in an Arizona killing that involved weapons of a botched US sting operation that allowed firearms to slip across the border, the government said Friday.

The Public Security Ministry said that federal police detained Jesus Leonel Sanchez Meza on Thursday in Puerto Penasco in Sonora state, which is across the border from Arizona.

Border Agent Brian Terry was shot dead in southern Arizona in December 2010 by suspected border bandits.

Early this year Terry's family filed a $25 million wrongful-death claim against the US government, saying he was killed because federal investigators allowed guns to fall into the hands of violent criminals.

The Mexican Attorney General's Office has planned to extradite Sanchez Meza to the United States, the ministry said in a statement.
