US President Barack Obama on Wednesday spoke before the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, saying this year has been "a time of extraordinary transformations, with more people claiming universal right to live in freedom and dignity."

The US President said that there are "convulsions in our world that endanger us all."

He praised the formation of the new South Sudanese state, and the popular uprising that led to democratic elections in Tunisia.

Obama also praised the events that led to the deposing of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt and Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.
