US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta urged Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to renew peace talks with Israel, Israel Radio reported Tuesday.

According to Israel Radio, Abbas responded that he was willing to renew negotiations if Israel agreed to halt settlement construction and agree to a two-state solution on the pre-1967 lines. The two met in Ramallah following Panetta's visit to Israel, where he met with Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
