President Shimon Peres told a group of bereaved families that he would do "everything possible" to try to obtain the release of Jonathan Pollard from the US.

The bereaved families asked Peres to use the Medal of Freedom which he is to receive from US President Barack Obama on June 13 to push for Pollard's release and return the issue to the public eye.

Peres said he "hopes his efforts will bear fruit."

The bereaved families emphasized that they had all lost loved ones, and that they did not want Pollard and his family to lose each other while Pollard was still alive.
