Petah Tikva court to sentence hit-and-run offenders

Petah Tikva District Court was scheduled to deliver on Monday the sentence for a man and woman convicted of a September 2009 hit-and-run accident in which a child, Amir Balahson, 13 was seriously injured.
Pnina Toran and Omri Naim confessed to hitting and leaving the child and driving without a license.
Prosecutors were expected to request that the pair receive three years in prison and be made to pay reparations to the injured child's family. The crime carries a maximum sentence of nine years in prison.  The family has stated that the penalty the prosecution has suggested is not severe enough. Their son is still in a coma as the result of injuries sustained in the accident.
