The National Council of Young Israel launched a nationwide grassroots effort on Sunday to push US president Barack Obama to accept Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's request to grant clemency to Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard.

As part of the "Call for Clemency Campaign," American citizens are encouraged to call the White House on a daily basis to request Pollard's release after more than 26 years in prison. People can contact the White House between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST by phone at 202-456-1414; by fax at 202-456-2461; and via e-mail at president@whitehouse.gov.

"This grassroots campaign gives people the opportunity to participate in a respectful and coordinated effort intended to help enable Jonathan Pollard to return home to Israel and reunite with his family," said National Council of Young Israel executive vice president Rabbi Pesach Lerner.
