An Egyptian soldier was killed Sunday in an exchange of fire between Islamist militants and an Egyptian force in the Sinai Peninsula, AFP reported.

Security officials told AFP that the soldier, Alaa Mohammed Eid, was killed when he was shot in the stomach near Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip.
