Shots heard in Homs as Syria cracks down on dissidents

The Syrian regime's crackdown on dissidents in the restive central city of Homs continued on Thursday with activists reporting shots fired, and arrests taking place amidst deserted streets.
"Shots were heard in Homs from dawn," Abdel Rahman of the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was quoted by AFP as saying. "Most streets were deserted because of the military operations. Tanks were seen around the fortress and entrances to many neighborhoods were closed."
