Supreme Court orders Ronel Fisher released to house arrest

In a blow to the prosecution’s efforts to control Ronel Fisher’s potential to manipulate his impending trial, the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered his release to house arrest with electronic handcuffs after he had been held in detention for several months.

The prosecution argued that Fisher, who was indicted for using his prominence in the legal community and his many connections to illegally gain information from police commander Eran Malka in a case which has shaken law enforcement to its foundations, was a grave danger to witness tampering if he was released.

But the Supreme Court said that he did head an organized crime syndicate and that there was no suspicion of him threatening witnesses, and that the mere vague fear that somehow he could persuasively manipulate witnesses could be handled by having him under strict house arrest.
