UN, NGOs request $664.4 million for humanitarian aid in Gaza, W. Bank

UN agencies request $664

UN humanitarian agencies and NGOs appealed to donors for USD $664.4 million, to be used to fund humanitarian aid programs in the Gaza Strip, east Jerusalem and parts of the West Bank. "The continued erosion of livelihoods and the denial of basic human rights together are compelling Palestinians to become more and more dependent on international aid," said the UN's Humanitarian Coordinator in the Palestinian territories, Maxwell Gaylard. He added that the need for such aid in the Gaza Strip had increased in the aftermath of Operation Cast Lead. The requested funds would be used to boost Palestinian agriculture, education, health, water, sanitation and more.
