US Navy vessels pass through Taiwan Strait

Two US warships passed through the Taiwan Strait on Monday, officials said, in a voyage that will likely be viewed in the self-ruled island as a sign of support by President Donald Trump amid heightened tension with China.
"The ships' transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The US Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," Commander Nate Christensen, deputy spokesman for US Pacific Fleet, said in a statement.
