Hamas is exploiting the democratic system in order to take control of the Gaza Strip and institute its Islamic rule, Vice Premier and Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon warned on Thursday.

Speaking at a seminar hosted by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Ya'alon addressed Hamas's six-year command over the Strip since it won the 2006 Palestinian elections.

Democracy can help stabilize countries, the vice premier explained, but must be achieved “through education rather than elections.”
