Following the announcement of waves of government cutbacks on Sunday, head of the Yesh Atid party Yair Lapid commented: "The cutbacks of 181 million shekels from the police budget jeopardizes the safety of all of us."
He said: "This is unbelievably irresponsible. In this period of cutbacks the police budget needs to be strengthened significantly. Drunk teenagers murder people on the streets, women are afraid to walk at night...entire communities are suffering from burglaries, and Netanyahu cuts back 181 million shekels, making cuts that will directly impair the personal security of every one of our citizens."
Lapid added: "The prime minister continues to demonstrate his lack of responsibility...wasting billions of dollars on bribes to the various sectors that make up the coalition, spending on ministers without portfolio whilst making cuts in the most sensitive sections of Israeli society."
