Yemeni FM asks for foreign help in fighting al-Qaida

Yemen needs help from the US and its other allies in its fight against the local al-Qaida group that was responsible for mail bombs intercepted in the UK and Dubai two weeks ago, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al Qirbi said Monday, according to a Reuters report.
Qirbi expressed concern, however, that if US involvement in Yemen's anti-terrorism efforts was too visible, it could actually aid al-Qaida by alienating moderate Yemenis.
"Those who want to help the Yemeni government should help build its forces to fight terrorism and give its security forces training and equipment, as well as logistical support in communications and transportation," the Yemeni foreign minister said.
