Yishai announces freeze in property tax hike

Interior Minister Eli Yishai announced Wednesday that he would freeze a planned increase in property tax in light of the recent public unrest over high housing costs, Army Radio reported.

The decision was made in coordination with the Dir.-Gen. of the Interior Ministry and the Center for Local Government, which would seek compensation from the Finance Ministry for halted in tax increase.

According to Army Radio, the Interior Ministry will also consider increasing property tax for those in higher tax brackets.
