Interior Minister Eli Yishai on Tuesday denounced a statement made EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton relating the shooting deaths of three children outside a Jewish school in France to the deaths of children in Gaza and called for her resignation over the matter.

"The statement by Lady Ashton further harms the ability of the European Union to be an honest broker" between Israel and the Palestinians, Yishai said.

Yishai added, "[Ashton] can no longer serve in her position."
