Yoaz Hendel, a strategic and military affairs columnist and commentator, will replace Gidi Schmerling as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s chief media adviser in October.Hendel, a columnist for Yediot Aharonot, a military commentator for Makor Rishon, and a talk show host on a program dealing with security affairs on Army Radio, will be Netanyahu’s fourth media adviser since taking office in 2009.
Schmerling, who will reportedly move over to become the spokesman for the Tel Aviv municipality, replaced Nir Hefetz, another Yediot Aharonot journalist who left the job in December. Hefetz replaced Yossi Levy just a few months after Netanyahu took office.Hendel, a military historian and lecturer at Bar-Ilan University and a research fellow at the Begin- Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, recently wrote a book with The Jerusalem Post’s Yaakov Katz entitled: Israel vs. Iran: The Shadow War.The Prime Minister’s Office has not yet put out an official announcement.
