Six dead in car accidents in South

Family of five burns to death after hitting truck; woman drives car into tree.

Four adults and an infant, all from the same family, burned to death in their car after they collided head-on with a truck on Highway 90, near the Arava junction.
The five victims – a couple, their baby, and the sister and mother of the husband, were trapped inside the car and burned to death at the scene. The five were reportedly on their way north from Eilat to a family function.
The driver of the truck, which flipped after the collision, was lightly wounded and taken to Beersheba’s Soroka Hospital. Shortly thereafter, he was questioned and then arrested by police and will be taken for a remand hearing in Beersheba’s Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Paramedic Yehezkel Mordechai, among the first to arrive at the scene, told The Jerusalem Post the accident was “shocking and disturbing” and the carnage and destruction were hard to put into words.
Mordechai said that when they arrived, firefighters had extinguished the flames and paramedics then managed to pull four grown bodies out of the wreckage. It was only then that they discovered the body of a baby burned to death inside the car.
At the time, Mordechai said the condition of the bodies made precise identification impossible.
Also Monday, a 50-year-old woman was killed when her car hit a tree at the entrance of Kibbutz Gvaram near Ashkelon.
