A rally to commemorate the murder of two gay youth at a Tel Aviv community center a year ago and protest violence against gays in Israeli society was ready to begin in Tel Aviv Saturday night, Channel 2 reported.Nir Katz, 26, and Liz Trubeshi, 27, were murdered when a gunman stormed into the center and opened fire a year ago. Katz was a counselor who worked at the center.RELATED:Gay Pride Parade held in JerusalemFake donkey parade counters gay marchThe case, which also left fifteen wounded, has yet to be solved.Activists brought candles to light during the rally as a way of remembering Katz and Trubeshi.Recent developments have suggested that acceptance of gays may be slowly increasing even among the more traditional sectors within Israeli society.Dozens of Orthodox rabbis and educators from the US and Israel have signed a statement of principles on the “place of Jews with a homosexual orientation in our community” that seeks to emphasize the dignity and respect such individuals are due as human beings and as Jews, The Jerusalem Post reported on Friday.Signatories from Israel include Efrat’s Rabbi Shlomo Riskin; Rabbi Yuval Cherlow, head of Petah Tikvah’s Hesder Yeshiva; Rabbi David Bigman, head of Yeshivat Hakibbutz Hadati; and Rabbi Seth Farber of the NGO ITIM.Jonadh Mandel and Herb Keinon contributed to this report.
