The Airports Authority, together with the Israel Police and emergency workers, will stage a large drill at Ben-Gurion Airport on Monday, simulating a plane crash with multiple casualties.
A police source told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that the drill is geared to prepare the authorities for dealing with an aviation accident, rather than a terrorism incident.
The exercise was planned months in advance.
“We will practice evacuating casualties and a mock information center for relatives of casualties will be set up,” the police source added.
Members of the public should expect to see a large number of emergency vehicles and heavy traffic in the vicinity of the airport on Route 1 and Route 40 on Monday, police said.
Officers from the Tel Aviv Police District, headed by Cmdr. Shahar Ayalon, will represent the police’s Central District during the drill.
