"Today marks the 100th day of the movement, but there is no sign the police will exercise restraint," Hong Kong legislator, Tanya Chan told the UN.
"In solidarity against terrorism, all forms of protest in Hong Kong will be suspended on Sept. 11, apart from potential singing and chanting," they said in a statement.
Hong Kong returned to China under a 'one country, two systems' formula that guarantees freedoms not enjoyed on the mainland, but many Hong Kong residents fear Beijing is eroding that autonomy.
Some protesters carried white carnation flowers, while others held banners saying, "Do not shoot, we are HongKongers."
Authorities have shut government offices in the financial district for the rest of the week after some of the worst violence in Hong Kong since Britain handed it back to Chinese rule in 1997.
