Pelephone announced today that by the end of 2024, an operationally independent 5G network core will be launched in Israel.

Pelephone is currently upgrading to an independent end-to-end 5G network core together with Ericsson, which is considered the world leader in the field. Pelephone will join other communication giants in the world that provide an independent 5G network.

This is a move that will allow Pelephone to offer groundbreaking services in the worlds of IOT, private virtual networks, management of critical and vital systems in various areas of life and industry, and innovative XR applications. All these on the basis of low latency, high traffic rates and massive sensor communication provided by the new technology.

The core of the new network that will be established is based on cloud technology and will gradually be used as a unified core for both 4th generation and 5th generation. Today, 5th generation services in Israel are based on radio transmissions with 5th generation technology that provide a large frequency range and allow surfing rates of hundreds of megabits per second to be reached. Pelephone leads the 5th generation in Israel with about 1 million 5th generation subscribers.

The move to replace the network core will complete the existing 5th generation radio infrastructure by creating a flexible and efficient network that will enable the dynamic creation of services that require high browsing rates, high reliability and a quick response of the network to end devices (low latency) such as: smart traffic lights, autonomous vehicles, medical services Remotely, virtual private cellular networks, Gaming applications, AR/VR glasses and more.

Alon Berman, CEO of Ericsson Israel: "We are proud of the successful and long-standing collaboration with Pelephone. Ericsson's leading technology will allow Pelephone an innovative 5G Standalone network with an extremely fast surfing experience, short response times and improved information security. Also, the network will allow flexibility and agility in establishing new services for private and business customers. Standalone 5G networks will create new business opportunities that will lead to growth and innovation in the field of communications in Israel."

Ilan Siegel, CEO of Pelephone: "The collaboration with Ericsson enables a revolution in the Israeli communications market. The establishment of an independent 5G network core is a strategic move that concerns all areas of our lives and our future in the State of Israel and Pelephone is proud to continue leading the 5G in Israel."
