The following article was published originally in July 2022. We are sharing it now for your perusal, but take into account that the following information may be outdated.

Normande, a brand known for its electrical appliances, unveils a large and impressive mixer with an exceptional capacity of 10 liters. Designed for versatile use, it's marketed as exceptionally powerful. Let's delve into its capabilities and assess who might need such a large volume.

Normande, the electrical appliances brand, launches a model with a larger capacity than usual, a home mixer with professional volume.

Manufacturer promises for this model, SM-2088:

The new model is a highly versatile and powerful mixer with a capacity of 1500 watts and a volume of 10 liters, featuring a large stainless steel bowl, convenient double whisk for dough mixing with a unique patent allowing high efficiency, improving mixing results and prolonging the product's lifespan.

Additionally, the mixer includes an LCD screen and digital control display, a 6-speed rotary dial including pulse, transparent cover to prevent splashes, wide and stable base to prevent movement, detachable accessories for easy cleaning, and a tiltable head for easy bowl access.

Testing Procedure:

We took the new (professional) Normande mixer model SM2088 for a home test. The mixer was tested by frequent bakers, baking cakes for sale, as well as loaves and pastries for family weekend gatherings.

This electronic mixer comes with a brushed stainless steel bowl with a giant 10-liter capacity.

The stainless steel bowl is easily removable from the base on which it sits. It is large and slightly heavy but very easy to operate and clean. Its handle makes it more comfortable to remove, clean in the sink, and install back on the base compared to other bowls without a handle that we're familiar with.

The bowl has a transparent cover to prevent material splashes and the option to add ingredients during operation, a feature common in other home mixers, but here, due to the large volume and amount of materials the bowl contains, we found it (the cover) even more significant.

The mixer head can be tilted backward for easy access to the mixture and easier removal of the bowl.

We also tested the double whisk intended for dough, marketed with the mixer as a unique patent. The double whisk appears stronger and suitable for the large amount of materials the bowl contains. According to the tester, the whisking of 2 kg of flour, which she prepares for bread dough every Friday as a Sabbath tradition, was easier, faster, and for the first time, the bowl's volume allowed her to proof the dough in the same mixing bowl without transferring the mixture to a larger container to prevent the dough from slipping out (which saves the use of additional large utensils and, of course, unnecessary dishwashing).

We tried the 6 different speeds offered by the dial in various cases of dough mixing, egg beating, and ingredient whipping for cream. In most cases, we used the high speeds that the dial allows, and they indeed performed the task well. In the case of whipping egg whites, we used low speeds to avoid "breaking" the foam, and even then, we noted absolute satisfaction with the performance.

Its weight and size make the mixer stable on the kitchen countertop. Its wide base prevents it from moving during operation.

The mixer came with detachable accessories that were easy to replace and clean. Here, we found something different from any other quality mixer we tested. The accessories that came in the package: a transparent cover for the removable bowl, a long whisk, a short whisk, and an egg beater.

The LCD screen is illuminated with a blue light for a modern look. We didn't find any particular advantage to it, although its overall appearance matched the modern look of the kitchen and other products with digital displays next to it (such as a microwave, electric kettle, and air fryer).

Summary:

Several criteria determined the purchase's suitability:

Capacity: 10 liters - compared to common home mixers with a capacity of 5 liters. The largest we've encountered holds 7 liters.

Power: 220-240v 50/60Hz 1500W, feels more professional than home mixers we're familiar with.

Noise level: entirely tolerable, even though louder noise was expected due to its size and contents and its power.

Included accessories: whisk, long whisk, short whisk, transparent cover, and egg beater.

Design: The tested mixer impresses with its presence; it looks powerful and heavy, high quality, and well-designed. Its clean lines, neutral color, and accompanying accessories blend harmoniously with each other and all together - in the overall design of the kitchen. There is no need to "hide" it in cabinets and only pull it out when in use; if you frequently use it, you can leave it permanently on the countertop. It will look like it was meant to be there always and may even add character to your kitchen.

Price: NIS 1,190, a reasonable price compared to the costs of similar competing mixers in their performance, which are significantly higher and even offered at double the price. Note that there are not enough models to compare with the same 10-liter capacity. Available in selected stores and preferred electrical networks.

In conclusion:

If you bake a lot and in large quantities, your kitchen is modern, and you have space for it on the countertop, this professional mixer (Normande model SM2088) will meet your expectations at a very reasonable price.
