31 Syrian soldiers killed in ammunition explosion at Homs airport

31 members of Assad regime's forces were killed in an explosion of ammunition at a military airport in Homs, Syria, according al-Sharq al-Awsat. The explosion was blamed on a technical malfunction or defect.
The explosion was earlier reported as a result of a "technical error during the transfer of expired ammunition."
The airport was targeted by the US in 2017 in response to a sarin gas attack on a city northwest of the airport which claimed the lives of over 80 civilians. The site is also used by Russian and Iranian forces and houses extensive facilities and air defense systems.
